BAMs Student Medal Project - ‘The Silent Burrow’ (2025)

The BAMs student medal project 2024 asked entrants to create a bronze casted medal. I chose to centre mine on the conservation of Badgers and British wildlife.

✴ Title: The Silent Burrow
✴ Medium: Bronze
✴ Measurements: 85mm x 85mm
✴ Statement: I have never seen a badger. Despite being a protected species under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, their populations are still culled each year. The practice is justified by the belief that badgers contribute to the spread of bovine TB in cattle. The ongoing badger cull sets a terrifying precedent for humanity’s treatment of nature and our readiness to destroy it, turning a blind eye to alternative measures that would negate the need for such drastic measures. The resilient and enduring medium of bronze juxtaposes the vulnerable position that these populations stand in, unaffected by time, unlike these fragile creatures, whose fate is moulded by human hands.
